Winter Emergency Car Kit

It’s winter break and if your college student is driving home to the Seattle area from Eastern Washington and back again after the holidays, make sure they keep a winter driving car emergency kit in their vehicle.

Here are some suggestions from the WSDOT about what to keep in a basic survival kit: flashlight, batteries, snacks, water, blanket, gloves, boots, and a first aid kit. It’s also important to have chains, an ice scraper, jumper cables and road flares in your car in case you get stuck.

Commuting across Snoqualmie Pass or Stevens Pass can be tough in snowy conditions, so have your student check the WSDOT for information about weather conditions, road closures or delays before they make the trek.
